Grandma's Antikes

Dealer 130 - Bernard and Diana Greenberg, co-owners of GrandMa's Antikes.

Bernard and Diana have been avid collectors of vintage books and Art Deco objects for many years. A few years ago they decided to turn there collecting passion into a business and became dealers, first at the Garden Grove Mercantile and then at Z Antiques in Cypress. Wanting to find a more responsive clientele for their niche items they joined the Chapman Antique Mall in Oct. 2004. Within the first week they made several sales and began developing a large following among Southern California book collectors as well as an international clientele as far away as Japan.

Among the interesting books that can be found within their several display cases, are early Walt Disney books featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and other Disney characters published during the 1930's through the 1960s, as well as wonderful books by L. Frank Baum, such as The Little Wizard of Oz series of books, The Road to Oz ca. 1909, Ozma of Oz ca. 1907 and others. You'll find several books beautifully illustrated by famed illustrator Arthur Rackman, published during the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Also, several turn of the 20th century titles by legendary illustrator Kate Greenaway, a vintage copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, and the Hardy Boys mysteries. In addition you'll find vintage paper doll cutout books of celebrities such as famous ice skater Sonja Henie ca. 1939 and child actress Shirley Temple ca. 1934.

Children's books and comics are specialties of the Greenbergs and customers that have childhood memories of characters such as Mighty Mouse, Heidi, and the Sorcerer's Apprentice will take a nostalgic trip down memory lane through the pages of the books found in abundance in space 130.

Diana and Bernard also deal in unusual Art Deco/Art Nouveau 'smalls' such as small bronzes and other miscellany from the period 1890-1930. One of the many interesting pieces you'll find for sale is an Austrian mechanical bronze 'erotica' statue of a nude, ca. 1920's. She stands about 8" tall on a marble base and wears stockings, a coat, and a hat. When a small lever is depressed on her upper back, her coat opens to reveal the fact that she's not wearing anything at all underneath. Very interesting. . .indeed.

The Greenbergs display their unique wares in space 130 which can be found by entering our mall and turning right. Continue to the last aisle and then turn left. GrandMa's Antikes can be found at the very end of that aisle in several display cases.
